The VSD drive frequency converter will alter the kW and electric consumption of the compressor to exactly match your air consumption at any given moment within its working parameters.
As this eliminates the off load running associated with fixed speed drive compressors in times of lower demand, it can result in massive savings in energy costs, and will always result in an eventual payback on your investment.
The running hours on variable speed machine can count for a fraction of that on their fixed speed counterparts, as the lifespan of a compressor, measured in operational hours, is all about the condition of all the bearings within the motor and air end (compressor pump) so if you have a machine that is slowing down all the time, to what can be 20% of full speed, then in turn the revolutions of the bearings and the running hours could represent as little as the 20% of fixed speed units.
